Meet Burton!

A warm welcome to Burton Callicott, our new Public Services Librarian who shares a bit about himself in this quick little video.

Burton comes to us from the College of Charleston Libraries where he was the Head of Research and Instruction with Faculty status. Burton is a seasoned and versatile professional having worked for the last 19+ years at the College of Charleston in increasingly responsible positions but always with a focus on public service and teaching. Informed by the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy, Burton has provided online and face-to-face instruction and is experienced in course integrated library instruction as well as standalone research-skills courses. Burton is a writer and scholar himself with his most recent publications in the area of digital institutional repositories. At the College of Charleston Burton served on many committees including the Library Instruction Advisory Committee and the Sustainability Committee. Burton has a Master of Arts degree in English and an MLIS (Library and Information Science) from the University of South Carolina. His undergraduate degree in English is from Reed College. Burton and his wife Alea have relocated to Louisville. They have an adult son, Theo who is at Savannah College of Art and Design. Burton relishes learning about spiritual paths and forms of devotion.  His journey has led him most recently to exploring mindfulness practices and meditation, something he has found to be very useful in navigating the stresses of the pandemic as well as his move from South Carolina! You may be familiar with his grandfather Burton Callicott the Memphis-based painter and theosophist 😊. We are blessed to have Burton and I am excited by the gifts he brings us.
